01/18/2018: India, Israel to strengthen defense ties | Refugee influx to Europe decreases in 2017

A major weapons deal between Israel and India is back on the table as Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu wraps up his six-day visit to India. What’s the significance of this weapons deal if it's approved? How will relations between the two nations develop in the year ahead? Liu Xin was joined by Saibal Dasgupta, a China correspondent for The Times of India and Meir Javedanfar, a Middle East analyst.

The European Migrant Crisis peaked in 2015, with over 1 million migrants and refugees crossing into Europe that year. Compared with 2016, fewer than half as many people crossed into Europe by sea in 2017. Migrant deaths in the Mediterranean have also dropped. What are the major factors responsible for this drop in migrants arriving in Europe? How have EU policies reshaped the crisis? Joining the discussion was Cui Hongjian, director of European Studies at the China Institute of International Studies, and Robert Stojanov of the Robert Schuman Center for Advanced Studies at the European University Institute, and also a faculty member of Business and Economics at Mendel University in Brno, Czech Republic.
