Japan: Hundreds participate in Tokyo's first N. Korean missile attack drill

Hundreds of people took shelter in underground spaces as part of Tokyo's first missile evacuation drill, Monday, amid soaring tensions over North Korea's (DPRK) nuclear programme.

Similar drills were held in smaller Japanese towns and villages last year in a bid to prepare civilians in the event of a North Korean missile strike.

North Korea has fired a number of missiles into the Sea of Japan. On August 29, 2017, Pyongyang launched a ballistic missile over Northern Japan. In North Korea's latest missile test on November 28, 2017, a missile flew some 950 kilometres (590 miles), passing over Japan before falling into waters in the Japanese economic zone.
