Turkey: Forces will 'clean up Manbij of terrorists' after Afrin operation - Erdogan

Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan announced that Turkey’s military will target Kurdish groups in Manbij following their Afrin operation, speaking to Justice and Development Party (AKP) members in Ankara on Friday.

Erdogan said that Turkish forces will expand their operation into other Kurdish areas in Syria towards the Manbij district, where US soldiers are currently stationed in support of Kurdish YPG fighters, and will continue further east towards the Iraqi border.

On January 20 the Turkish president launched the military operation into Syria dubbed 'Olive Branch' targeting Kurdish 'terrorists' across the border.

Turkey views the YPG, which is active in northern Syria, as an extension of the banned militant group the Kurdistan Workers' Party (PKK).
