In an interview he gave to RT in Moscow on March 25, 2013, Diaz-Balart talked about the energy crisis and touched down upon a variety of topics including fracking in North Dakota and the development of renewable energy in Cuba.

"Cuba has three wind farms. We think of continuing gradually developing them, but they are expensive," he said during the interview.

His father Fidel Castro, the icon of the Cuban Revolution, died aged 90 in November 2016. He served as Cuba's President from 1976 to 2008.
