The bodies of 16 migrants have been recovered off waters near Melilla, a Spanish enclave bordering Morocco.

It is the latest in a number of deadly attempts to reach Europe so far this year.

According to the International Organization for Migration, more than 240 people have died or gone missing in the Mediterranean since the New Year began.
