Afghanistan: IS-claimed suicide blast kills at least nine in Kabul

At least nine people were killed and at least seven more injured after a suicide attack targeting a Shia Hazara gathering in Kabul on Friday, officials said.

A suicide bomber blew himself up after being stopped at a checkpoint in Kabul's al-Zahra neighbourhood, a deputy interior spokesperson said. The bomber was reportedly targeting a gathering commemorating the 23rd anniversary of the death of Abdul Ali Mazari, a former leader of the mostly Shia Hazara community.

The attack was claimed by the so-called Islamic State (IS, formerly ISIS/ISIL) on an IS-affiliated website.
