Russia: Hypersonic missile system 'Kinzhal' successfully tested - Putin

Russian President Vladimir Putin introduced the new high-tech 'Kinzahl' missile system at his Annual Presidential Address to the Federal Assembly in Moscow on Thursday.

Putin said the system has already been successfully tested and that “it has no analogues in the world."

Commenting on the missile system’s specifications, the Russian leader noted that it has “unique aero-technical characteristics” which “allow it to deliver the missile to the drop point in a matter of minutes."

“The missile flies at hypersonic speed, 10 times greater than the speed of sound, it is manoeuvring in all parts of the flight trajectory. This allows it to overcome all existing and, I think, future air-defence and missile-defence systems, delivering to the target nuclear and other warheads at a distance of more than 2,000 kilometres,” Putin stated.

Over 1,000 people attended Putin's 14th state-of-the-nation address in the Manege Exhibition Center, including members of both houses of the Russian Parliament, members of the government, as well as other officials and prominent figures.
